    Area Activities

    True Texas Ingenuity

Covering 9 million acres, the Texas Hill Country American Viticultural Area (AVA), stands as the 3rd largest AVA in the nation and is home to over 100 wineries with over 60 being members of Texas Hill Country Wineries.  Amidst the captivating landscape, approximately 1,000 acres of vineyards flourish, giving rise to delicious varietals rivaling and at times surpassing those grown in France, Italy and Spain - despite the area's rich German heritage. Harnessing true Texas ingenuity, wine growers in this region embrace the challenges and complexities of its unique terroir in order to bring you the best of Texas wine.

    Immerse yourself in history

Our founders knew this was someplace special when they settled here in 1846. Behind the elegant shops and fine dining, you can feel the authentic German soul and see reminders of our heritage in the historic buildings along Main Street, the German cuisine at local restaurants, and the welcoming spirit of our people in the city of Fredericksburg. Come and explore the Texas Hill Country.

The paintings, drawings, and sculptures at the Museum of Western Art tell the stories of the Wild West and the American frontier. The museum focuses on the work of living Western artists while temporary exhibits highlight masters of the past, artifacts, and history.

    Kayak the Medina River

Winding through tunnels of towering bald cypress trees on its way to Bandera, the Medina River doesn't get the crowds that flock to the Guadalupe River. So you have most of it to yourself as you spend a couple of hours of bliss in a kayak rented at the Old River Road RV Resort.

The Alamo, a pivotal site in the Texas Revolution, now stands as a testament to courage and sacrifice. This historical shrine, located right in the heart of downtown San Antonio, offers visitors a glimpse into Texas’ storied past.

The Alamo is like nowhere else: the jewel of Texas heritage and historic destination that will create memories that will last a lifetime.
